DAV Class 8 Maths Chapter 2 Value Based Questions

Cubes and Cube Roots Value Based Questions

1. Students of a school collected provisions like rice, pulses, etc., for the flood affected people of Madhya Pradesh. These provisions were packed in six cubical cartons each of side measuring 65 cm.

(i) Find the volume of cartons packed.

Solution

\[ \begin{align*} \text{Side of 1 cubical carton} & = 65 \ cm\\ \color{magenta} \text{Volume of a cube} & = \color{magenta} (Side)^3 \\ & = (65 \ cm)^3 \\ & = 65 \ cm \times 65 \ cm \times 65 \ cm \\ \text{Volume of 1 cubical carton}& = \color{green} 274625 \ cm^3 \\ \\ \text{Volume of 6 cubical cartons}& = 274625 \times 6 \\ &= \color{green} 1647750 \ cm^3 \end{align*} \]

Answer Volume of 6 cubical cartons \( = \color{red} 1647750 \ cm^3 \)

(ii) What values do you learn from the students?

Answer Caring, helpful and responsible.

2. A school decided to award prizes to students for three values—discipline, cleanliness of environment and regularity in attendance. The number of students getting prizes in the three categories are in the ratio 1:2:3. If product of ratios is 162, then

(i) Find the number of students getting prizes for each value.

Solution

Let the no. of students be \( x, 2x \ and \ 3x\) \[ \begin{align*} x \times 2x \times 3x & = 162 \\ 6 x^3 & = 162 \\ x^3 & = \frac{\cancel{162}^{27}}{\cancel6_1} \\ x^3 & = 27 \\ x & = \sqrt[3]{27} \\ x & = 3 \\ \end{align*} \] \[ \begin{align*} \text{Prizes for discipline} = x & \implies \color{red} 3 \ students \\ \text{Prizes for cleanliness} = 2x & \implies \color{red} 6 \ students \\ \text{Prizes for regularily} = 3x & \implies \color{red} 9 \ students \\ \end{align*} \]

(ii) Name any other two values that you can inculcate.

Answer Respecting others, honesty and truthfulness.
